Cooked her-in-doors a steak for tea last night so I got a day pass to go out with a few TRF mates.
Slipped out of Exeter via Dawlish around 9.30 and off over towards Teignmouth trying to use a few less known lanes, which worked out well cos it was lovely with not a soul around, even managed to avoid the famous 192-200, the plan being to pick it up on the way back to avoid overuse.
Off over the Teign at shaldon, then the big challenge was to ride combe-in-teignhead without picking on the well used lanes, then crossing kingskerswell via 202-059.
Then made a small mistake and used 202-069, must advise against this one on a Sunday, far too many folks use it for dog walking etc, it’s not the best lane anyway.
Managed to get right over to Totnes with no bother apart from a couple of amateur rambaliars with explorer map in hand, stopped to explain where north was and pointed them in the right direction, cool!
Top marks for the oggy oggy pasty shop in Totnes for being just about the only place open for hot food.
Worked a rough loop back over Teign then had a casual ride up 192-200, glad we did it last cos it was getting a bit nippy with the sun almost down and no one else around.
Finished a great days ride out cold, tired and no harm done.
Sounds like a nice ride. Did you encounter anyone other than the rambliars? I'm out on Thursday with a couple of friends and we aim to get round without anyone noticing. That's the beauty of mid-week trail riding.
Yeah there were people about but not a lot, i got the feeling a lot of folks may have taken the day out or gone for the pub lunch.
The interesting bit is planning yer route but trying to think of avoiding the usual stuff and finding those lost lanes that dont get so much use, then its amazing what you discover.
I found myself backing off the gas and riding a smoothly as possible which has got to be a good thing.
